University of Abuja , 21st Century Open University , Artifex University, & Torit Health Science Institute Convene First Joint Implementation Meeting

In a landmark step toward global academic partnership, the University of Abuja (Nigeria), 21st Century Open University(USA), Artifex University (Romania) , Torit Health Science Institute (South Sudan) successfully held a structural implementation meeting on Friday May 1st 2026.

Key Participants :The meeting brought together Joint  representatives, Vice Chancellors, Chancellors,Rectors from:  University of Abuja  , 21st Century Open University  - Artifex University , Torit Health Science Institute .
Opening remarks were delivered by Dr. Roberto Maurice Robert , and Prof. Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi  , with recognition of VCs, Rectors, and institutional representatives in attendance.

Core Outcomes & Priorities : The meeting aligned on four core objectives to drive the collaboration forward:
1. Joint Research – Launching collaborative projects, publications, and grants in STEAM, health sciences, and social sciences to address global challenges .

2. Innovative  Pathway – Developing new program pathway to enhance offerings and improve graduate employment outcomes.  

3. Faculty & Student Mobility – Establishing exchanges, joint supervision, and research opportunities across institutions .  

4. Cultural Exchange – Building collaborative projects that foster cross-cultural learning.

Priority areas for immediate action include joint conferences and events, both online and onsite, alongside capacity-building workshops for faculty and staff development.

The meeting enacted a Joint Steering Committee and appointed Prof. Patricia Taiwo to oversee implementation, with representatives nominated from each institution.

 Closing remarks from the VCs of University of Abuja, 21st Century Open University, Artifex University, and THSI underscored a shared commitment to actionable outcomes.
This cooperation marks a significant milestone in advancing international research, education, and innovation across America, Africa , and  Europe,  as well as opportunity for other partners of 21stCOU.
